Video ads by channel / Reddit

Video ads for Reddit.

A plain demo that can survive its own comment thread, in the ratios Reddit lists, with every spoken word in the headline too.

01

The medium

A Reddit ad is a post. It sits between posts in the home and community feeds or on the conversation page of a thread, marked as promoted, and it can carry a comment thread of its own. Comments are off by default and the advertiser chooses to allow them; political ads must keep them open for their first 24 hours. In the second quarter of 2026 Reddit reported 130.3 million daily and 514.6 million weekly active uniques.

Its rules are written for that room. Spoken words in a video must match the text in the ad copy, strobing and flashing visuals are refused, no more than half the copy may be in capitals, and thumbnails must suit a general audience. The listed video ratios are 1:1, 4:5, 4:3 and 16:9, with no vertical 9:16, and Reddit recommends five to thirty seconds.

A free-form ad can hold up to five videos and 40,000 characters in one post, which is closer to an explainer with film in it than to a spot.

Reddit's newer help pages refuse automated reads, so the ratio list, the comment setting and the budget figures come from search snippets of its official pages, and the rest from its older help articles read directly. No Reddit page states a maximum length or says that ads autoplay muted, so neither is claimed here.

How we build an ad for it

Directed by people, made with AI, finished by hand. You approve the script and the sound before any footage is made.

  1. Say what the headline says

Reddit requires the spoken words in a video to match the text in the ad copy. The voiceover and the headline are written together and checked line by line, so the narration never makes a claim the post does not, and nothing is left for a reviewer to flag.

  2. Square and 4:5, not vertical

Reddit lists 1:1, 4:5, 4:3 and 16:9 for video, and other ratios may letterbox. The feed master is 4:5 or square, a 16:9 version covers desktop and the conversation page, and a 9:16 cut made for Stories is recomposed rather than reused.

  3. Ready for the thread

With comments on, the film is the opening post of a public conversation. Every claim in it is one the brand can defend in a reply, nothing is staged to look like a customer, and the script answers the obvious question before a commenter has to ask it.

  4. A demo, not a gloss

The ad often sits inside a thread full of text, where a plain, captioned explanation of what the product does reads better than a polished mood film. The brand is on screen in the first three seconds, as Reddit's own guidance suggests, and the demonstration does the rest.

  5. Chapters for a free-form post

A free-form ad takes up to five videos inside a long post. We shoot modular chapters, the setup, the demo, the proof and the answer people ask for, so the post reads like a useful write-up with film in it rather than a spot pasted into text.

  6. Alternates from the same session

Reddit's own creative guidance notes that performance often drops after four to six weeks. Alternates are shot in the same session with different openings and different demonstrations, and there are no strobing or flashing transitions, which Reddit refuses outright.

Questions about Reddit ads

Can comments be turned off on a Reddit ad?

They start off. Reddit's help pages say ads have comments off by default and the advertiser opts in, and political ads must keep comments on for at least their first 24 hours. If you allow them, we write the film so every claim in it can be defended in a reply.

What aspect ratio should a Reddit video ad be?

Reddit lists 1:1, 4:5, 4:3 and 16:9; other ratios may letterbox. We deliver a 4:5 or square master for the feed and a 16:9 version for desktop and the conversation page. A 9:16 cut made for Stories is recomposed, not reused.

How long should a Reddit video ad be?

Reddit recommends five to thirty seconds and publishes no maximum on its specification page. We write to that band, and when a product needs longer, we use a free-form post with several short videos instead of one long one.

What is a Reddit free-form ad?

A post-style ad with up to 20 images, up to 5 videos and up to 40,000 characters of rich text with links inline. It suits a product that needs explaining; we shoot it as modular chapters that sit inside the text.

Does a Reddit voiceover have to match the ad copy?

Yes. Reddit's editorial requirements say spoken language in a video ad must match the text in the ad copy. We write the narration and the headline together and send them for approval side by side.

What does Reddit advertising cost to start?

Reddit's minimum is five US dollars a day, and its setup guide recommends at least fifty a day per ad group. That budget is spent in your own Ads Manager; Filmito's price covers the films and their post copy.
