Video ads by channel / Disney+ and Hulu

Ads for Disney+ and Hulu.

Native frame rate, Disney's safe areas respected, and the interactive units planned as films of their own.

01

The medium

Disney sells Disney+ and Hulu as one ad business. Its ad chief said before the 2026 upfront, in trade coverage, that it reaches over 200 million ad-supported viewers a month. Disney Campaign Manager, the self-serve tool that replaced Hulu Ad Manager, opens both services to a verified business for a minimum of 500 US dollars per campaign, with English-only ads and no targeting of children.

Beyond the standard commercial, the units are Disney's own. Ad Selector lets the viewer choose one of two or three films and plays the highlighted one after fifteen seconds; a pause ad is a 1085 by 770 transparent PNG with a QR code Disney builds; Gateway Go sends an offer to the viewer's phone from a video of fifteen to sixty seconds; and Hulu's Branded Slate is a five to seven second card voiced by Hulu's own announcer.

The two services do not share every rule: political ads are refused on Disney+ and reviewed case by case on Hulu, where AI-generated content in a political ad must be disclosed.

The safe-area figures come from the diagrams on Disney's video commercial page. The 200 million monthly figure is a quote in trade coverage, not a Disney release. Disney publishes specs for Australia and New Zealand but none for its UK, Canadian or European ad tiers on the pages read, so none are given. The generic Disney row is on the connected TV page.

How we build an ad for it

Directed by people, made with AI, finished by hand. You approve the script and the sound before any footage is made.

  1. The frame rate it was shot at

Disney asks for files at their native frame rate and rejects 3:2 pulldown, so the edit timeline matches the camera rate instead of conforming everything to 29.97 for broadcast. A film made at 23.976 is delivered at 23.976.

  2. Scope decided at the shoot

A picture natively wider than 16:9, such as 2.35:1, may be matted top and bottom; bars around a 16:9 picture, and pillarboxing, are rejected. The aspect ratio is chosen before the shoot rather than discovered in the grade.

  3. Inside Disney's two safe areas

Low-priority content stays 3.5 percent in from every edge, and anything interactive 5 percent from the sides and 5.5 from the top and bottom, the same on both services. The top right stays empty for the ad badge and countdown, and nothing on screen looks like a button.

  4. Ad Selector means two or three films

The viewer chooses between two or three spots of the same length, fifteen or thirty seconds, and the highlighted one plays after fifteen seconds. Each is a genuinely different treatment with its own clean thumbnail frame, not one film cut three ways.

  5. Plates and lines for the interactive units

Gateway Go's background may have no single focal subject and no burned-in text, so it is shot as a dark textured plate, with the 115-character push message and the 35-character call to action written beside the script. Pause art is a 1085 by 770 PNG in white type of 30 characters or fewer.

  6. Eleven syllables for Hulu's announcer

A Hulu Branded Slate is read by Hulu's own voice: Presented by, then the brand and a tagline of no more than eleven syllables. We write the tagline to be spoken, mark the phonetic stress, and supply only the primary logo, with no product shots.

Questions about Disney+ and Hulu ads

What is the minimum spend to advertise on Hulu or Disney+?

Disney Campaign Manager sets a minimum of 500 US dollars per campaign, billed to a card once the ad starts running, after a business verification of 24 to 48 hours. The interactive units are sold by Disney's sales team. We deliver to either route.

Can a Hulu ad be in Spanish?

Not through Disney Campaign Manager, which takes English only for now. Direct Disney+ buys accept English or Spanish, and Hulu's Branded Slate has a Spanish read, Presentado por. We deliver an English master and a Spanish version where the buy allows it.

Can political ads run on Disney+?

No, they are prohibited on Disney+. On Hulu they are reviewed case by case, need a paid-for-by disclosure, and any AI-generated content in them must be disclosed in writing, and aloud for synthetic audio.

Can a Disney+ ad be letterboxed for a cinematic look?

Only when the picture is natively wider than 16:9, such as 2.35:1, which may be matted top and bottom. Bars around a 16:9 picture and pillarboxing are rejected, so we decide the frame before the shoot.

How does Ad Selector work on Disney+ and Hulu?

The viewer picks one of two or three ads of fifteen or thirty seconds; if nobody chooses within fifteen seconds, the highlighted one plays. It needs two or three videos, 546 by 307 thumbnails with no text and a 254 by 79 logo, with twelve business days of turnaround.

Can alcohol be advertised on Disney+?

Alcohol, including zero-proof drinks, is reviewed case by case on Disney+ and on Hulu, with age and location limits; it is not an automatic ban. Children's profiles are another matter: under-18 Disney+ profiles get no interactive features and every ad passes Disney's own approval.
