Video ads by channel / Amazon

Video ads for Amazon.

The product in two seconds, its function in five, silent in search and loud on Prime Video.

01

The medium

An Amazon video ad meets someone who is already shopping. Sponsored Brands video appears at the top of search results and alongside them, plays automatically once half of it is on screen, and starts muted with a mute toggle in the lower right corner. A click goes to the product page or a Brand Store, so the ad is the last thing between a comparison and a purchase.

Amazon's own guidance is unusually precise about time: show the product in the first two seconds and its function in the first five, keep the whole film to twenty seconds or less, and make sure product shots are big enough for a phone. The frame is 16:9 only, letterboxing and pillarboxing are refused, and a black or blank frame at either end is a moderation flag.

The same account reaches the living room. Streaming TV ads on Prime Video, Twitch and Fire TV are full-screen, non-skippable and delivered in non-clickable environments, so a button-shaped call to action is barred there and the sound is on. Online video through the DSP wants exact lengths of six, fifteen, twenty, thirty or sixty seconds; any other duration, Amazon says, may hurt performance.

Amazon's policy pages on loudness and abrupt endings are sign-in gated and were read through a rendered copy; they ask that an ad is never louder than surrounding content and does not start or stop abruptly. Looping of Sponsored Brands video is reported by third parties but not stated on an official page read.

How we build an ad for it

Directed by people, made with AI, finished by hand. You approve the script and the sound before any footage is made.

  1. The product in two seconds, the function in five

Amazon's guidance is the brief. The first frame is the product, large enough for a phone, and by the fifth second the viewer has seen what it does. Brand name and logo come later, as a signature rather than an opening.

  2. Silent in search, loud in the living room

Sponsored Brands video starts muted, so the search version is told in picture and short on-screen text with captions. The Prime Video version of the same film is remixed with a voice and a bed, mastered at a level that never exceeds the program around it, and delivered at an exact fifteen or thirty.

  3. Nothing in the lower right

The mute toggle sits in the lower right corner of a Sponsored Brands video. Every super, price panel and logo is laid out against Amazon's safe area template, and the corner stays empty.

  4. No bars, no black, no buttons

Letterboxed or pillarboxed video is refused, a black or blank frame at either end is flagged in moderation, and click-style calls to action are barred on Amazon's non-clickable placements. The film is composed full frame at 16:9, opens and closes on picture, and ends on the product rather than a button.

  5. Twenty seconds, then a clean loop

Amazon highly recommends twenty seconds or less in search. We make the search cut as a complete twenty, design its last frame to return to its first in case the placement loops, and keep the longer version for the product page and Streaming TV.

  6. The marketplace's language, on screen

Amazon asks that on-screen text or voiceover match the marketplace language. The film is written so that text and voice can be versioned, and monthly plans carry language versions for the marketplaces a catalog sells in.

What to order

Questions about Amazon ads

What are the Sponsored Brands video specs?

16:9 only, at 1280 by 720, 1920 by 1080 or 3840 by 2160, MP4 or MOV in H.264 or H.265, at least 1 Mbps, up to 500 MB, six to forty-five seconds long with twenty or less highly recommended. Audio can be PCM, AAC or MP3, stereo or mono. We deliver the 1920 by 1080 and 4K masters in every plan.

How long should an Amazon video ad be?

Twenty seconds or less for Sponsored Brands, by Amazon's own recommendation, with the product in the first two seconds and its function in the first five. Online video wants exactly six, fifteen, twenty, thirty or sixty seconds, and Prime Video accepts 15, 30, 45 or 60 in the US and Canada.

Does an Amazon video ad play with sound?

Not in search. Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display video start muted with a toggle in the lower right, so the film has to work silently with captions. Streaming TV ads on Prime Video play with the sound on, so that version is remixed with a voice.

Can we use our television commercial on Amazon?

Often, after a check. It must be 16:9 with no bars, must not open or close on black, must show the product within the first seconds and must not carry a button-shaped call to action. We reframe the opening, trim the slate and black, and recut to twenty seconds for search.

Why do Amazon ads get rejected?

The reasons Amazon publishes: black, colored or blurred bars; black or blank frames at the start or end; text that is not legible or overlaps the interface; a language that does not match the marketplace; click-style calls to action; and audio that is louder than the surrounding content or stops abruptly. We check each before delivery.

Do you make versions for other marketplaces?

Yes. The film is written so that on-screen text and voice can be swapped, and monthly plans include language versions for the marketplaces you sell in. Each version keeps the same picture and timing so approvals carry across.
