The Real Cost of a 30-Second Ad in 2026: Shoot vs AI Studio vs DIY Tool
“Cheap per second is not the same as cheap per finished film.”
A 30-second ad in 2026 costs anywhere from a $30 monthly subscription to a six-figure invoice, and the gap comes down to one question: who does the work. Make it yourself in a self-serve tool and you pay roughly $30 to $250 a month plus your own evenings; hand it to an AI studio like ours and a 30-second Launch ad is $895 flat; book a traditional shoot and the public 2026 cost roundups from InVideo and Sovran put you in the five to six figure range. We run one of those three options, so read this knowing that. What we offer instead of fake neutrality: our real price list, category ranges for the other two paths, and a plain account of what goes wrong on each.
The three paths in one view
Most cost comparisons hide one of four things: total money, calendar time, whose hours get spent, or the failure mode. Here are all four for each path. The live table sits at filmito.io/en/ai-video-ad-cost and we update it when prices move, ours included.
- Traditional shoot: five to six figures per spot, as the public cost roundups from Sovran and InVideo describe the category. Weeks of pre-production, a shoot day, then post. A crew does the work. The risk is that the budget is spent before anyone sees a frame.
- DIY AI tool: roughly $30 to $250 a month for the software by the same roundups. Hours to days of your own time per ad. You do the work. The risk is the time that never appears on an invoice, and a result that looks like everyone else's.
- AI studio, our Launch tier: $895 for a 30-second ad, first cut in 3 days, two revision rounds included, full usage rights on delivery. We do the work. The risk is that a generated film cannot do everything a camera can, which we cover honestly below.
Path one: the shoot
We ran a conventional film studio from 2017 before AI entered our workflow in 2023, so we say this with affection. A shoot is still the most reliable way to get exactly what you storyboarded. It also has the most line items: a director, a crew, a location, talent, wardrobe, equipment, insurance, catering, and then an edit, colour, sound and music licensing. Every line is a person or a day.
That is why the category ranges in the public roundups land at five to six figures for a single commercial. The calendar runs in weeks because people and places have to be booked. And the money is committed before you see a frame. If the concept does not land in the edit, a reshoot is a second production bill, not a revision round.
A shoot is the right call when the ad depends on a recognisable real person, when a real product has to be handled in real hands with exact packaging, or when the media buy is large enough that production cost is a rounding error. We do not compete there, and we would rather tell you that now than after you have paid us.
Path two: the DIY tool
Self-serve AI video tools have become genuinely good and genuinely cheap. The public roundups put them at roughly $30 to $250 a month depending on tier and how many minutes you render. If you have the hours and the taste, this is the lowest cash outlay of the three.
The cost you do not see on the invoice is your time. We operate four engines in production (Seedance, Kling, Veo 3 and Grok Imagine), and here is what the marketing pages leave out. A single generated take holds reliably for roughly 5 to 8 seconds before it drifts, so a 30-second film is cut from many short takes. On-screen text inside generated footage garbles, so it has to be added in post. Seedance rejects AI-generated images as reference inputs and wants real photographs. Kling wanders off subject unless the framing is locked in the prompt. Moderation refuses prompts you thought were harmless. None of that is a dealbreaker. All of it is an evening, usually several.
The other hidden cost is per-second pricing. The premium engines have a cost floor of roughly $0.14 per generated second, and a cinematic ad burns many takes for every usable second. Cheap per second is not the same as cheap per finished film. Our own generation compute runs about EUR 5,000 a month, and that is production, not experimentation.
“Anyone can generate with AI. We direct it.”
The DIY path is right when you enjoy the craft, when you need dozens of rough variations a week for testing, or when the ad is simple enough that a template will carry it. If that is you, do not hire us. Buy the subscription and keep the money.
Path three: the AI studio
Here is our price list, identical for every client, at filmito.io/en/pricing. A Launch one-off ad is $595 for 15 seconds, $895 for 30 seconds and $1,495 for 60 seconds. First cut in 3 days, two revision rounds included, full usage rights transferred on delivery, no retainer and no sales call. Rush 48-hour delivery adds 40 percent of the base price. The money-back guarantee applies on Launch only.
If you need volume, Growth is $2,497 a month for 4 unique ads with a 5-day first cut, and Scale is $4,997 a month for 8 ads with a 3-day first cut. Growth is the tier a beer brand called Kaptaan used to get a 72-second brand epic plus three retargeting films, with vertical editions of all four, from a single photograph of the can. Eight finished files from one image.
What you are buying is not the software; you could rent that yourself. You are buying people who have delivered 2,000+ ads across 50+ countries, hold a 4.9 average from 956 public reviews on Fiverr, and sign off every frame before it reaches you. We call the method HumanXAI: humans direct, AI produces. Sony, Xeneta and Fora Financial have bought exactly that.
Now the honest part about time. Our 3-day first cut is real, but the finished film usually takes longer, and we published our own archive to prove it at filmito.io/en/ai-ads-report. In a sample of 742 versioned projects, 19.0 percent were approved on the first cut. 45.6 percent were approved by cut two, and 66.2 percent by cut three, which is the first cut plus the two included rounds. The median project needed cut three. So plan on roughly a week of back and forth rather than three days. If you approve on cut one, wonderful, but budget your calendar for the median.
What goes wrong on each path
- Shoot: weather, a location that falls through, a performance that does not land, and an edit that reveals the problem after the budget is gone.
- DIY tool: the film looks like every other film made with the same tool, the on-screen text is wrong, the character's face changes between shots, and you spend three weekends shipping something you are not proud of.
- AI studio: a generated film cannot show a real person's face or a real product in real hands, and we warrant in contract that no generated person is derived from a real individual. If your ad needs a specific real location or a real celebrity, a camera still beats a prompt, and we will say so before you pay.
Which path is yours
Pick the shoot if the ad needs a real face, a real product in real hands, or if you are buying media that dwarfs production. Pick the DIY tool if you have the hours, want volume for testing, and can live with a template look. Pick an AI studio if you want a director between you and the machine, a fixed price, and a film with a story in it, and you are fine with that story being told by generated people.
The live table with current prices for all three paths is at filmito.io/en/ai-video-ad-cost. If you want to know what your specific ad would cost with us, send the idea to filmito.io/en/see-your-ad and we reply within one business day with the concept, the price and the date. No call required. And if the honest answer is that your ad needs a camera, that is what the reply will say.
